Fresno Elder Abuse: Man Charged with Felony Elder Abuse

A Squaw Valley man was arrested last week on a felony elder abuse charge, following the death of his 81-year old mother earlier this summer. Details of the alleged abuse came to light on August 6th of this year, when authorities were called to the 1000 block of Silver Lane in Squaw Valley on an injured person report. Witnesses reported seeing an elderly woman lying on the ground near her son, suffering from a number of injuries. Authorities transported the injured woman to Community Regional Medical Center where she died. Shortly after the incident, police opened an investigation into the cause of the elderly woman’s death and her son’s potential connection. Continue reading

Fresno County Accused of Mishandling of Deceased Woman’s Estate

The daughter of a recently deceased Fresno woman has filed a suit against the county. She accuses state employees of mishandling and stealing many of her mother’s possessions.

The claim suggests that the Fresno County Public Administrator’s Office not only bungled the auctioning of her mother’s estate, but also is responsible for the theft of items taken by individuals working for the county. As reported by the Fresno Bee, the Fresno County District Attorney’s Office has been investigating the suspected thefts since the allegations surfaced earlier this year. State prosecutors have also been brought in to assist in the investigation. No criminal charges have been filed to date. Continue reading

California Bicycle Accident Deaths on the Rise

A new report released by the Governors Highway Safety Association states that deaths involving bicycle riders increased across the country by 16% between 2010 and 2012. California out ranks every state in the union in bicycle rider deaths. Over 300 more cyclists were killed by vehicles in California than any other state.

Bike riders account for approximately 4% of motor vehicle deaths in California each year. In addition, cyclist deaths have risen considerably higher than the number of motor vehicle fatalities. Analysts are unable to determine exactly why cyclist deaths have spiked over the past 5 years.
