An early morning collision in Central Fresno between a motorcycle and large pickup truck has left one person dead and another clinging for life. As reported by the Fresno Bee, the Fresno motorcycle accident happened around 8:30 a.m. on Monday at the corner of Blackstone and Cornell Avenue.
Witnesses reported seeing two people on a Harley Davidson motorcycle – a 54-year old man who driving and a 53 year-old female passenger – heading northbound on Blackstone at a high speed. Authorities estimate that they could have been traveling close to 70 mph. At the same time, another driver in a Chevrolet Silverado pick-up was heading west on Cornell toward a gas station. The truck driver failed to notice the motorcycle entering the intersection and collided with the speeding bike.
The driver of the bike was taken to Community Regional Medical Center with serious injuries and died shortly thereafter. His passenger remains in the hospital, while the driver of the truck was uninjured. Investigators are still attempting to determine what was the actual cause of the accident and if alcohol played a role.
Motorcyclists and their passengers are at greater risk for injury when it comes to accidents along the road. This is especially true when dealing with a distracted or drunk driver.
